Bloating

Dog Bloat Symptoms

This is a condition where the stomach fills with air and then twists over on itself. It interferes with breathing and the stomach looses blood supply resulting in shock. Immediate emergency attention is vital.

Symptoms

Common signs of this condition are abdominal swelling accompanied by drooling and unsuccessful attempts to vomit. Breathing is rapid and labored and the dog is restless and uncomfortable.

Treatment

This very serious health risk needs immediate treatment. Usually a tube is inserted down the esophagus to relieve the gas from the stomach. If that does not work, then emergency surgery is required to untwist the organs.

Feed your pet right to prevent bloating

Preventative

Do not allow your dog to gulp or eat large quantities of food. It is better to feed more frequent smaller meals. Try to keep mealtimes at the same time each day. Mealtimes should be calm and relaxed; your dog should not be stressed. Also strenuous exercise immediately before or after meals should be avoided.
