Cherry Eye
Cherry Eye is when the “third eyelid” pops out and becomes engorged with blood, looking like a small cherry in the inside corner of the eye.
Treatment
The third eyelid is surgically put back into its normal location and stitched. If your pet shows signs of this condition, it should be treated as soon as possible to minimize damage to the gland and preserve the ability to produce tears. Inadequate tear production could develop to dry eye which can seriously affect vision. If the problem is severe or long termed then the gland may need to be removed and treatment given for a dry eye condition.
