Diabetes
Diabetes is a condition where the cells of the body cannot consume the glucose from the blood. If diabetes is not treated it will lead to premature death.
Symptoms
Signs include excessive drinking of water, more frequent urination, change in appetite, weight loss, poor healing of wounds, fatigue, vomiting and dehydration. Later stages include liver malfunction, cataracts and increased chronic infections.
Treatment
Mild cases of diabetes can be managed by diet, exercise and weight loss. However, in most cases insulin injections are needed to keep the level of blood glucose in the normal range. Managing diabetes is a commitment and daily routine. A monitored balanced diet, consistent exercise and routine blood and urine tests are needed to maintain your pet's health.
