Liver Disease
Liver disease is also called hepatitis. The liver plays a key role in digestion, metabolism, detoxification and protein and vitamin production. The disease can be caused by viral or bacterial infections, toxic chemicals or drugs, cancer, parasites or metabolic disorders such as diabetes. The liver becomes inflamed.

Symptoms
Jaundice, fluid buildup in the abdomen and vomiting are some signs of this disease. Tests must be made to measure enzymes, bile acids and protein levels in the blood.
Treatment
The treatment depends on the underlying case and severity of the problem. Rest, proper nutrition and medications for infection and inflammation are needed. A diet low in fat and protein may be prescribed so that the liver does not have to work so hard in digestion and metabolism.
